Overview
Speakeasy-style cocktail & rooftop bar in the heart of Sydney.
A bit hard to find, but well worth the search, Old Mate’s Place is a speakeasy-style rooftop bar, hidden in a run-down office building in the heart of Sydney.
Set over two levels, the lower part of Old Mate’s is a quite dark indoor lounge, similar to an old library with packed bookshelves and smart furnishing. While the intimate upper floor open-air rooftop is not a completely different story, it is (naturally) more bright and airy, surrounded with lush plants and cool views over the city.
The rooftop menu does include beer and wine, but Old Mate’s Place is really a venue for cocktails. Creative and crafted to perfection, you will probably find your old favourite, but should probably try something new from the ever-changing list of signatures.
Before ordering your next cocktail (which you likely will), you should fill up with some food. Old Mate’s Place has you covered, offering a few meats and cheeses, but most of all: a four-selection strong line up of some really fine Philly cheese-steaks.
