Overview
Note: NEMO's Rooftop Square is currently closed due to construction until the spring of 2025.
The highest city square in the Netherlands.
The NEMO Science Museum does not only offer interesting fun for the whole family. On the roof of the building you also find the highest city square in the Netherlands.
Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the spacious rooftop includes a cool outdoor exhibition called Energetica, a restaurant, as well as some smashing views over the Oosterdok and Amsterdam's historical center.
Reachable either from some stairs at street level, or by lift from the central hall in the NEMO building, the rooftop is free and open to all daily and year-round (the only exceptions are bad weather, special events, New Year and King’s Day). During summer it is usually also available in the evenings, with a regular schedule of events, like rooftop cinema.
The modern and bright indoor / outdoor rooftop restaurants serves fresh sandwiches, hot snacks, homemade lemonade and other goodies, but you can also bring your own snacks up to the rooftop.
While NEMO's Rooftop Square is a given and natural part of a visit to the museum, it is just as much a great rooftop for anyone who wants to enjoy some sunny relaxation and grand views.
