Overview
Cosy and stylish rooftop cocktail bar, inspired by the American Prohibition era.
While the excellent and Manhattan-inspired Kimpton Shinjuku Tokyo started welcoming guests already in 2020, the elevated crown jewel Rooftop Bar 86 is a late-2022 addition to the Tokyo sky.
Set on the 17th floor, this exclusive and urban rooftop bar offers a sleek and beautiful setting, reminiscent of a New York penthouse. Mixing interior and outdoor seating, here you are surrounded with stunning views over the Shinjuku skyline, both through the large windows and at the alfresco terrace.
The 86 rooftop bar specialises in artsy, iconic and sexy cocktails inspired by the American Prohibition era, divided into 'Forgotten cocktails', 'Prohibition-era cocktails', and 'Signature cocktails'. There is also a fine selection of Japanese draft beers, champagnes and wines.
The drinks are complemented with mouth-watering bar bites, described as 'Asian Soul food'. Filled with spicy and comforting aromas, they are perfect to pair with the creative cocktails.
Open nightly, Rooftop Bar 86 comes with an ambience that is exclusive and stylish, yet cosy and fun, perfect to escape the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku. Reservations before your visit are highly recommended.
The name “86” is inspired by the slang used during Prohibition era (1920-1933), where it is said that the police would use the secret language, “86 your customers,” to let the bar know that a raid was about to happen. It is also said that this slang originated from a legendary speakeasy bar Chumley’s which was located at 86 Bedford Street in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City.
