Overview

Ambiance: Found in the heart of West Hollywood, E.P. & L.P. Rooftop Bar holds one of the largest roof terraces across Los Angeles, stylish decorated with greenery, fire pits and cozy night time lighting. From the terrace you get a lovely and expansive view over Hollywood Hills and Sunset Strip.

Drinks & Food: The rooftop bar offers some really tasty hand-crafted cocktails, available by the glass or pitcher. There are also frozen creations, and a nice selection of beer, sparkling and wine. Complementing the drinks, the global snack menu includes everything from small plates and burgers to tasty tacos.

What we think: E.P. & L.P. Rooftop Bar has been one of our favorite rooftop bars in LA since our first visit in 2018. And after our latest visit in 2024, the feeling still stands. Apart from great views and drinks, E.P. & L.P. also offers a great atmosphere. Lively, fun and friendly, usually with a lot of people, but also a lot of space. Attached to the same property as L.P. & E.P. you also find the Melrose Rooftop Thetre, showing cult classics and new releases Sun-Thur every week from May-November. Our recommendation: do the rooftop dinner / cocktail / movie combination.

Dress code: The E.P. & L.P. Rooftop dress code is smart casual. So, typically, it’s a look that lands between a pair of jeans and a T-shirt, and a full-on suit and tie look. You can mix elements of those two outfits, or you can add or takeaway things to make it smart casual.

Framed by some breathtaking views over LA and the city skyline.

Drinks and Food: The Roof menu include Latin and tropical-inspired cocktails with a local flair, a deep list of Mezcals and tequilas, a substantial list of rosés, and a refreshing selection of Latin American plates.

Stay at the hotel, and you can enhance the experience with a dip in the fantastic rooftop pool.

  • Don't miss the weekend rooftop brunch.
  • Dress to impress, Perch is a super trendy rooftop with a very trendy crowd.

Overview

Ambiance: Perch Los Angeles is a popular rooftop bar and bistro, located in downtown LA, surrounded with a magical view of Los Angeles skyscrapers and skyline, and the mountains in the distance. Perch covers two floors, with a restaurant, bar & lounge on the 15th floor with both indoor and outdoor seating. And then there is the open-air rooftop terrace up on 16th floor. The interior has a French bistro-feel with classy furniture and lush plants, and outside seating comes with a lot of cozy fireplaces and fire pits.

Drinks and Food: Up at the top floor rooftop terrace only drinks are served, but these are on the other hand worth a visit in themself. Enjoy a wide selection of Parisian-inspired and crafted cocktails, as well as plenty of wine, beer and rare Cognacs.

What we think: For us, this is the best rooftop bar in Downtown LA. Open nightly and from brunch-hour on weekends, Perch Rooftop LA comes with a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, with a mixed crowd and often live DJs or jazz bands picking up the vibe even more. The prices are very reasonable, considering the setting, view and quality.

Dress code: The Perch dress code is upscale casual. A nudge up from smart casual, which means it’s recommended to dress for success. Guests are invited to dress in a stylish yet relaxed manner.

Expert Tips

  • Reserve your spot for comfy lounge sofas and bottle service.
  • Come here during the sunset hours. One of the best sundowners in the world
  • Try one or three of the local Californian beers on the drink menu.

Overview

Ambiance: From the roof terrace at the lovely Hotel Erwin rooftop bar, you get some amazing views over the Pacific Ocean and Venice Beach. Being the only rooftop in Venice, High Rooftop Lounge feels a lot like a continuation of the beach below, with lounge sofas and large umbrellas. The only difference might be that up here you also have infrared (and blankets) keeping the heat up on chilly nights.

Drinks and Food: The rooftop bar offers a good selection of well-made specialty cocktails and different Californian beers, along with some really tasty bar bites and a weekend brunch. The menu even includes sunscreen, so visits during sunny days are no problem at all.

What we think: So the High Rooftop Lounge at Hotel Erwin is an LA rooftop worth a visit both day and night, but the one time you really should try to be here is during sunset hour. The magical view of the sun going down behind the Pacific Ocean is something everybody should experience, at least once! Expect a great lounge vibe on the terrace, perfect for relaxing drinks in the sun. And at night, there are often live DJs picking up the pace a notch. The rooftop terrace is quite large, but if you want to make sure to get one of the comfy lounge sofas, and maybe go for bottle service, you should make reservations in advance.

Dress code: The High Rooftop Lounge dress code is smart casual. Smart casual is an approach to dressing professionally that mixes trendier pieces in with classic staples. The goal is an appearance that’s clean and professional but doesn’t look too formal.
