As a bartender, it’s important to always improve your skills as by improving them, you can develop within your job. The more you learn, the more you can grow and work your way up from an entry-level bartender to the person running the bar. So the question is, how do you improve your bartending skills? To get better at bartending, one of the first places you should look at is online learning. There are plenty of online mixology courses with Drinksworld certification, that you can sign up for which will improve you as a bartender. In the courses, you’ll learn how to enhance your cocktail-making skills and adjust drinks to suit your customer's requirements. You can study the courses in the comfort of your own home and are in no rush to complete them, meaning you don’t have to spend a few months of solitary studying.
Sometimes, the best way to improve at something is to simply do it many times until you perfect the trade. When it comes to cocktail making, to get better, you do need to keep practising. The more you make a drink, the quicker you will become at making it and after enough repetition, you’ll know it like the back of your hand. Each time you make it, try something slightly different and see how it turns out. This is how you can perfect a recipe, for example, you can make an old-fashioned using orange bitters on top of the standard recipe if you prefer it.
Bartending isn’t just about making cocktails and pouring beers or glasses of wine. It’s about communicating with the customer, and ensuring they are having a good experience. To do this, you need to work on your customer service skills and improve these, alongside your drink-making skills. The best bartenders are attentive, they are organised and willing to go above and beyond for the customer. Even if the customer (within reason), asks for a drink that isn’t on the menu, they will try and make it for them, as this will keep the customer happy.
There are so many ways to improve your bartending skills, you just have to be willing to learn.
