The Party: Open nightly, Bar Lis comes with a sophisticated and lively atmosphere, mixing Southern California ease with Hollywood glamour. Weekday nights include live modern jazz night series and cool lounge vibes, while weekends are often more vibrant with DJ soundtracks and nightclub sessions.
Ambience: Very chic and quite beautiful in design, the rooftop blends the indoor with the outdoor, aiming to capture the style of the French Riviera. Plush lounge sofas, a stylish bar, cypress trees and a central water fountain are all surrounded with panoramic views over Hollywood Hills and Downtown LA. The rooftop menu is also infused with the seaside soul of the Cote D’Azur, including Summer Spritz cocktails, premium spirits, wine and bubbles by the glass or bottle, along with bistro-inspired small plates.
What we think: We visited Bar Lis for some evening cocktails followed by a full party night with drink table and live DJ sets. The vibe was amazing, much thanks to the fantastic DJ. The crowd here is super trendy and the club is very popular, so be prepared to stand in line down on street level to get in here.

The Party From the roof terrace at the lovely Hotel Erwin rooftop bar, you get some amazing views over the Pacific Ocean and Venice Beach. High Rooftop Lounge at Hotel Erwin is an LA rooftop worth a visit both day and night, but the one time you really should try to be here is during sunset hour followed by a party night. There are often live DJs picking up the pace a notch here during weekends.
Ambience: Being the only rooftop in Venice, High Rooftop Lounge feels a lot like a continuation of the beach below, with lounge sofas and large umbrellas. The only difference might be that up here you also have infrared (and blankets) keeping the heat up on chilly nights. The rooftop bar offers a good selection of well-made specialty cocktails and different Californian beers, along with some tasty bar bites and a weekend brunch. The menu even includes sunscreen, so visits during sunny days are no problem at all.
What we think: The magical view of the sun going down behind the Pacific Ocean is something everybody should experience, at least once! To do so while having a party is even better. Expect a great lounge vibe on the terrace, and a more club-like atmosphere in the alter hours. Just as it should be!
Dress code: The High Rooftop Lounge dress code is smart casual. Smart casual is an approach to dressing professionally that mixes trendier pieces in with classic staples. The goal is an appearance that’s clean and professional but doesn’t look too formal.
