Overview
Dual-level terrace on top of old cinema.
Built in 1926 by Peter Petersen, Gamla Bío is a former cinema turned into event venue, and one of the most significant buildings in Reykjavík. During constructions, Petersen also built an apartment for himself on the third floor of the building, which has been turned into Petersen Svítan (the Petersen Suite), one of the city's most sought after rooftop destinations.
Part indoor and part outdoor outdoor, the alfresco terrace is set over two levles, and from the upper one you get an amazing 360° view of the city and Vesturbæinn.
Foremost a bar and lounge, the charming and urban terrace is a great spot for relaxing and sunny drinks, impressive sunsets, or fun nights under the northern lights during summer. There is also a smaller food menu, with bites like burgers, nachos and flatbreads.
For elevated private events, Petersen Svíta can be rented as a whole for groups of up to 150 people, as well as individual spaces within it (for 20 to 50 people).
